Deborah Lee Grayson (Phillips), 66, passed away in peace and with grace at her home in Fishers, IN on September 8, 2017 after a courageous battle with breast cancer.
Deb was born in 1951 in St. Louis, MO to Robert and Billie Phillips. A 1969 graduate of Cahokia High School, Deb moved to Indianapolis in 1975, where she spent 30 years working in insurance and cellular communications. In 2005, Deb married her soulmate Whit, and together they loved and embraced their crazy, blended extended family. Deb’s passions included gardening, traveling, and most importantly, spending time with family.
Deb possessed a sparkling, vivacious soul; she enveloped everyone around her with her loving spirit. She always brought out the best in those around her with her kindness, witty conversation, and infectious laughter. She will be profoundly missed.
In true Deb fashion, she rejected the idea of a standard funeral, and instead requested a celebration to honor her life. We ask all who were touched by Deb’s love and warmth to join us for a Celebration of Life on October 15, 2017, from 2 to 5 p.m. (service begins at 2 p.m. with refreshments to follow), at The Willows on Westfield.
Deb is survived by her husband Whit, parents Robert and Billie Phillips, daughter Kirstin Grayson (Mike), stepdaughters Blythe Grayson and Brittany Steff (Ian), her beloved grandchildren: Zoe Kirkes, Daniel Steff and Owen Steff who affectionately referred to her as “Nups,” and her loving little dachshunds Stanley, Stella and Suzie.
In lieu of flowers, we request that donations be made in Deb’s name to either Susan G Komen or the Indianapolis Zoo. Both organizations held a special place in Deb’s heart.
In memorial donations can made be made online or mailed to:
Susan G Komen, 5005 LBJ Freeway, Suite 250, Dallas, TX 75244
Indianapolis Zoo, Institutional Advancement, 1200 W. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46222

Whit, I didn’t know Deb, but I know the Graysons and have for 63 years and they have exquisite taste in mates, So that makes your loss even harder when you have to give up the best. I’m sure (like I said of my sister after all of her struggles) “I’m not sorry she is gone, I am just happy she was here.” My condolences my friend.

Having only met her once, it was a wonderful experience. It can be very difficult to lose someone in your life that is such a vibrant spirit. My deepest condolences to Whit, the entire Family, and all of her close friends.
